HISTORY of the HOLMES FAMILY by |

Introductory. On this 26th day of Nov. 1914, I will attempt to describe the history of the Holmes family back as far as the revolution.
The man the farthest back that we have my record of was a soldier in the revolution during the war. When on his death bed a man came to him and offered to take care of his children, and read him a document which he had made out. It provided that he was to take care of Mr. Holmes's children until they were of age. He was to do it for a small sum which the sick man thought satisfactory.
When Mr. Holmes died, it was found out that instead of the paper which the man had read that it was a will of all the land that he owned which was where Auburn now is and did not mention the three children.
As the man would not take care of the children they were left to shift for themselves. The girl married and went to Texas and after a time she was heard from no more. The two boys were separated and one of them never heard of again.
The boy that was left when he was of age went back to Auburn to lay claim to the land that had so unjustly been taken from him, but he did not succeed.
After a time he married and they had two children, both boys. When these boys became of age they married. One of them went to Canada and the other stayed in N.Y. State.
Both these boys had families, but the one that stayed in N.Y. married twice because his first wife died.
The children of the man that stayed in N.Y. were named Edwin, Walter and Lena.
Lena died Nov. 4, 1913. The second wife of Mr. Holmes Nov. 7, 1913, and Mr. Holmes Aug. 2, 1914.
Walter married and is keeping a store, and Edwin married and has three children and is a farmer."
